Bea McNally’s in Hackettstown

Artist: France Belleville-Van Stone
Artist Statement: Because I rarely do a “pre-sketch” in pencil, I often end up with second or third attempts on one page. There is something healthy about keeping the failed drawings close at hand, to be reminded of where they went wrong. The construction lines cannot be erased as they were also drawn in pen — but so be it. If i didn’t like the sketchiness of sketches, I would be taking photographs.

MEDIA: Ink and watercolor
SURFACE: Gamma Series – Heavyweight – 150 gsm – Ivory – Medium Grain Finish

ABOUT THE ARTIST: France Belleville-Van Stone is a high school French teacher and mother who sketches in her free time. She is the author of Sketch! The Non-Artist’s Guide to Inspiration, Technique and Drawing Daily Life and an instructor at Danny Gregory’s Sketchbook Skool. Her favorite medium is pen, and she uses a Gamma Series ivory Stillman & Birn sketchbook for her everyday sketches.
