Floral Rainbow

Artist Statement: I created a floral rainbow as an expression of my love of bright colours and flowers in a fast, loose, free-flowing style, which seems to be my favourite style.

I used Daniel Smith watercolours with no mixing onto a clear water wash of the petal shapes. I enjoy the magic of watercolours and how it usually dictates where it ends up … not me! An Art Graf water soluble graphite pencil was then applied over semi-wet and dry areas to form petal shadows and outlines. Uniball fineliners were used to add extra petal and stamen definition and when it was all possibly looking a little too murky, a little splash of Signo White gel pen helped lighten it. Splatter was added with a water brush and Derwent Inktense pencils as the final step.

I find the weight and surface of the Apha Series sketchbooks brilliant for the mixture of media that I experiment and play with on my arty journey. I also do a lot of travel and urban sketching and they are perfect for that as well.

MEDIA: Watercolour, ink and graphite
SURFACE: Alpha Series – Heavyweight – 150 gsm – White – Medium Grain Finish
