Hummingbird Study

Artist: Laura Sepulveda, Australia
Artist Statement: I’ve always used art as a lifeline to make sense of the world externally and internally. I know all my art has a touch of the macabre, expressed through elements of nature. Using a variety of mediums, my favourite ink, I try and capture the snapshots in my head as a way of freeing up space, momentarily achieving a sense of peace. I dabble in both abstract and realism, but I aspire more to realistic, classical renderings.

I always sketch out my concept in mechanical pencil, as I can establish detail easier, then I use pigmented fountain ink or most lately, paint markers, to finalise my artwork. I find using these two mediums provide a bold, graphic effect that makes the work leap from the page in an emotionally intense manner.

MEDIA: Graphite, Acrylic (paint markers), Ink
SURFACE: Alpha Series – Heavyweight – 150 gsm – White – Medium Grain
