White Camellia Floral Study

ARTIST: Allyson Tierney Jones, South Carolina, USA

ARTIST STATEMENT: My neighbor’s gorgeous camellia bushes always inspire me, especially when in full bloom. A promise of spring contrasted against the stark, bareness of winter’s chill. Camellias are one of my favorite flowers to paint for this reason! I referenced a photo I took myself, and made this study using a graphite pencil, layered watercolor washes, and added final details with colored pencils and white ink. My watercolor style is inspired by traditional Japanese floral painting and newly acquired knowledge of glazing with western watercolors. I enjoy mixing different materials and techniques!

MEDIA: Graphite, Watercolor, Colored Pencil, Gel Pen
SURFACE: Beta Series – Extra Heavyweight – 270 gsm – White – Cold Press Finish
